The New WVU Art Museum will contain approximately 5,300 square feet of exhibition and gallery spaces on two levels, a large climate controlled art storage facility, a classroom with full audio/visual capabilities, a collection research room, and support facilities. Outside the Art Museum will feature a sculpture garden and plaza.
The new Art Museum will be physically connected to the former Erickson Alumni Center now known as the Museum Education Center. That building will house offices, conference and education rooms, a lecture/performance hall, lounge, cafe, and museum shop. Groundbreaking September 10, 2013
During the Spring Break recess, March Westin will utilize this time to perform some infrastructure work related to the new Art Museum project. The work will involve cutting the roadway just up the hill from parking Area 55 for an electrical tie in. It has been arranged with the contractor that the bulk of the work will be done after 8:00am and before 3:00pm. The plan is to keep a driving lane open if possible. However, vehicles travelling to the upper portion of the Evansdale Campus are encouraged to enter and exit Campus at the Mon Boulevard traffic signal. Flag personnel will be on site to direct traffic. Anticipated completion of the work is by the end of the week so that it will be available to reopen to normal traffic upon the students return.
At this time there are no interruptions planned. The site is in an isolated section of the campus. The construction activities will have little impact on the flow of vehicular or pedestrian traffic. The shutdown of utilities for tie-ins to the new building will be necessary and will be scheduled and coordinated in advance.
